Youth football team invited to Tucson meeting after teen speaks out about park concerns

The Tucson Southwest Rams youth football organization will meet with city officials about safety and improvements at Rudy Garcia Park.

The meeting is scheduled for July 23 at 6 p.m. on the back soccer fields during practice. Representatives from Tucson Parks & Recreation, the Ward 5 Office and the Tucson Police Department are expected to attend.

The team’s executive board has spent recent months advocating for better conditions at the park, where renovations are underway. City officials are seeking feedback from families, coaches and supporters connected to the program.

The meeting follows an April City Council appearance by 13-year-old Southwest Rams player Jordan Vasquez, who spoke about concerns with conditions at the park.
