'We'll get there': Sheriff Nanos says Nancy Guthrie case remains active

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Nancy Guthrie’s abduction remains an active investigation, not a cold case. He told KGUN 9 that he agrees with the FBI’s assessment that the case involves a kidnapping for ransom.

Nanos said his investigators are working with the FBI and remain confident the case will be solved. DNA collected from Guthrie’s Foothills home has been sent to multiple laboratories, including an FBI facility.

Investigators are beginning to use familial DNA genealogy, which can identify possible relatives of an unknown person. Nanos said that process could give investigators a lead and someone to contact.

Nanos said he speaks daily with his investigative team and remains in contact with Guthrie’s family, including Savannah Guthrie. The case is approaching its sixth month.
