UPDATE: Two more bodies pulled from wash near Nogales; Tucson man dies in river

Two more bodies were recovered Saturday from a wash north of Nogales, one day after a man’s body was found near Kilometer 22 along Interstate 19. The man appeared to be in his mid-30s. Investigators photographed his tattoos to help identify him and notified the Mexican Consulate.

A woman’s body was found near the same location around 10 a.m. Saturday. A third body was also recovered, though the person’s sex had not been determined. All three bodies were taken to the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner.

Nogales police first spotted two bodies Thursday while passing the Ruby Road and Rio Rico bridges during a heavy monsoon downpour. Several agencies joined the search and rescue effort. Parts of Santa Cruz County received between 1 and 1.5 inches of rain Thursday and Friday.

In a separate incident, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department recovered the body of 61-year-old Ernesto Ojeda from the Santa Cruz River around 1 p.m. Saturday, not far from South Tucson. Deputies had received a report Friday that a man had been swept down Julian Wash. Ojeda’s family said he was last seen near the wash Friday and became concerned.
