TUSD rolling out new security camera program at seven locations

Tucson Unified School District is starting a $13 million bond-funded security project that will add cameras and digital access controls across its schools and other sites.

The system will allow school safety staff and site administrators to view camera feeds remotely from a central location. Principals will also have remote access to cameras at their own schools.

Work has begun at seven pilot locations: Sahuaro High School, Hudlow Elementary School, Miller Elementary School, Safford K-8 School, Project MORE High School, Vesey Elementary School and the district’s administrative headquarters.

TUSD expects to expand the program across the district over the next couple of years. Officials say the cameras are intended to help monitor for unauthorized intruders and vandalism. The district serves about 41,000 students at 89 schools.
