TUSD board appoints interim principal at Pueblo High School amid investigation

The Tucson Unified School District board unanimously voted Tuesday night to appoint Alma Mejia-Garcia as interim principal of Pueblo High School. Mejia-Garcia is currently an assistant principal at Pueblo and is entering her second year at the school.

She will lead the school while TUSD investigates complaints involving former Principal Frank Rosthenhausler. He has been on administrative leave after staff and parents raised concerns about alleged inappropriate behavior toward female employees and other experiences with his leadership. His contract runs through June 2027.

Mejia-Garcia said she plans to support Pueblo’s existing community, traditions and programs rather than make major changes. She highlighted the school’s long history, student achievements and athletic successes.

Rosthenhausler expressed support for Mejia-Garcia and the Pueblo community in a statement. The district said it will name an interim assistant principal at a later time.
