Tucson woman dies from injuries following attack at apartment, TPD says

Thursday, July 30, 2026 · Reported by KVOA

A woman has died after Tucson police say she was punched at an apartment complex on July 24. She fell and suffered a brain bleed. Her identity has not been released.

According to court documents, 27-year-old Dahseir Edward Jefferson, also known as “Dice,” allegedly got into a verbal confrontation with two people at the complex. Police say he punched a male victim, who fell and hit his head, then struck the woman when she tried to help.

The woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition, underwent emergency surgery and was placed on a ventilator. Police confirmed she died from her injuries on July 29. The male victim suffered cuts, a head injury and scrapes, according to court documents.

Jefferson was arrested July 28 and is being held on a $150,000 bond. He faces a charge of aggravated assault involving temporary but substantial injury. Tucson police said the case is now being investigated as a homicide. Court records show Jefferson was convicted in 2021 in two separate cases involving aggravated assault and third-degree burglary.
