Transit Safety Takes Center Stage As Tucson Seeks Public Input On Bus Security

Tucson residents will be invited to share ideas about public transit safety through a new series of community meetings. The Safe City Connect: Transit sessions will cover the city’s Transit Safety and Security Action Plan.

Discussion topics will include security services, police patrols, bus stop upgrades, incident reporting and the Transit Ambassador Program. Residents can also ask city officials about safety efforts on buses and at transit stops.

Transit fares will not be discussed. City officials said fare policy is handled by the mayor and City Council. Residents can share their views by contacting their council member, speaking during Call to the Audience at council meetings or joining future public meetings about the city budget.

Four sessions are planned from Aug. 10 to Aug. 13, with in-person and online options. Meetings will be held at El Pueblo Senior Center, on Zoom, Randolph Recreation Center and the Ward 2 Office, depending on the ward. Registration is required, and details are available on the city’s website.
