Salad and Go goes out of business

Salad and Go has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and is shutting down, leaving Tucson customers making final visits to the chain’s locations. At the restaurant near Speedway Boulevard and Craycroft Road, customers lined up for one more meal.

The company became known for fresh, affordable salads served quickly. It grew to more than 70 restaurants in Arizona and Nevada, including seven in the Tucson area.

Salad and Go blamed weaker consumer demand, higher costs and ongoing effects from earlier expansion. The company also said none of its produce was linked to a parasite outbreak that sickened people in at least 35 states.

Bankruptcy filings indicate the company’s financial problems had been developing for some time. The records include a proposed $105 million sale of at least 65 locations to Dutch Bros Coffee.
