Rudy Garcia Park renovation brings $4M in upgrades to sports fields, lighting

Rudy Garcia Park on Tucson’s Southside is undergoing a $4,086,097 renovation. The work will improve sports fields, courts, lighting, walkways, playground equipment and restrooms.

The project is funded by $500,000 in impact fees and $3,586,097 from Proposition 407. The improvements follow years of requests from residents and local sports groups, including the Southwest Rams.

The park will stay open during construction, but some areas will close at different times. Visitors can expect temporary closures of fields, fencing around the three basketball courts and the playground, along with sections blocked off for new concrete walkways.

Work is expected to finish by February 2027. Rudy Garcia Park is at 5001 S. Nogales Highway.
