Police ask for public’s help in solving 1982 Arizona cold case

Tuesday, August 4, 2026 · Reported by AZ Family

Tucson police are asking for the public’s help in identifying who killed Jeanne Overstreet, a 19-year-old woman who disappeared in September 1982.

Investigators believe Overstreet was hitchhiking near Stone Avenue and University Boulevard to meet someone for lunch. She never arrived, and her family never saw or heard from her again. She also left behind her puppy.

Skeletal remains found in a remote area of Pinal County in November 1983 were identified as Overstreet’s through DNA testing in 2012.

The Tucson Police Department’s Cold Case Unit is still investigating her disappearance and death. Anyone with information can call 88-Crime, and anonymous tips are accepted.
