'Let's Talk About It': Pima County hosts conference to connect teens with mental health resources

Pima County hosted a new conference called “Let’s Talk About It” to connect young people with mental health services, support and drug addiction resources.

The event focused on creating a safe place for people ages 10 to 24 to discuss mental health. Aryanna Diaz, who said she has faced mental health struggles since she was 10, said stigma can make these conversations especially difficult in some cultures.

Motivational speaker Zion Givens, who grew up in Tucson, encouraged attendees to view vulnerability as a strength and learn healthy ways to cope with challenges.

Pima County health officials said the conversations are especially urgent as fentanyl and other illegal drugs remain widely available. The county recorded as many as 443 overdose deaths in 2023, officials said. Organizers hope teens leave knowing they have people and resources available to help.
