Hot dog! Popular Sonoran hotdog cart ready to expand footprint in Garden District
Wednesday, July 22, 2026 · Reported by KGUN 9 Local News
After nearly 18 years serving Sonoran hot dogs from a cart at Alvernon Way and Lee Street, El Sinaloense owners Beto and Egla Gutierrez are planning a permanent kitchen and takeout spot nearby.
The couple bought two commercial buildings about two blocks south of the cart last fall. They plan to use the new location as a headquarters for food preparation, catering and to-go sales.
The project includes expanded food offerings and improvements to the property, including new fencing and security cameras. Neighbors have welcomed the plans, saying the corner has long been associated with convenience stores and crime.
The Gutierrezes hope to open El Sinaloense Market by late fall or early winter. They plan to keep serving customers in the Garden District, where the family has lived and worked for nearly two decades.
