Hope…then disappointment in Nancy Guthrie investigations

Attention around the Nancy Guthrie investigation remains intense, though it was especially heightened in the days immediately after her disappearance. Every possible lead brought a rapid response from law enforcement and news crews.

Ten days after Guthrie disappeared, deputies detained a man in Rio Rico for questioning. Crews went to the Pima County Sheriff’s headquarters and the community about 60 miles south of Tucson. Authorities later determined the man was not connected to the case and released him.

Around the same time, a medical evacuation helicopter flew from Rio Rico to Banner University Medical Center. Reporters checked with the hospital, which said Guthrie was not listed as a patient.

Three days later, deputies and FBI agents arrived in a Foothills neighborhood to serve a warrant and conduct a search. News crews from Arizona, across the country and other countries gathered outside the roadblocks as forensic vehicles arrived. The activity raised hopes of a breakthrough, but no apparent progress in the search followed.
