Douglas Area Food Bank works to reopen after more than a year of closure

The Douglas Area Food Bank is working to reopen after closing in June 2025. The closure followed the loss of its partnership with the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, leaving more than 1,000 monthly clients without the service.

New president Michael Sexton and volunteers have spent the past three months working through permits and licenses. They are also addressing past complaints by improving how the food bank operates.

The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona has agreed to supply the Douglas location once volunteers complete customer service training. Other groups have also offered food donations.

The food bank is accepting food and financial contributions as it prepares to reopen. Operations are expected to resume in the coming weeks, after training in Tucson and the first food delivery.
