Danny Gonzales could build rare legacy with Arizona football | Greg Hansen
Wednesday, August 5, 2026 · Reported by Arizona Daily Star
Arizona football opens training camp Wednesday with three major strengths in place: defensive coordinator Danny Gonzales, offensive coordinator Seth Doege and senior quarterback Noah Fifita.
Gonzales and Doege each received $1.1 million salaries, a record for Arizona assistant coaches. Fifita is expected to earn at least twice that amount, according to Greg Hansen.
Gonzales has said he enjoys coaching Arizona’s defense and hopes to remain with the program through 2032. Reaching that mark would give him nine years on the Wildcats’ staff.
That kind of tenure would put Gonzales among Arizona’s longest serving assistant coaches. Only a small number of the more than 220 assistants in program history have lasted nine years or longer, including Marc Lunsford, Duane Akina and Sharkey Price.
