Conservative group demands records on Hobbs' 'know your rights' website

A national conservative organization is suing Gov. Katie Hobbs’ administration for records about her “Know Your Rights” website, which explains what people can do if they are stopped by federal immigration agents.

Judicial Watch wants to know how much taxpayer money was used to create the Spanish and English website. It also is seeking records showing whether Arizonans were denied rights by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents before the site launched.

The website outlines rights including remaining silent, requesting an attorney and asking whether someone is being detained. It also says ICE agents generally need a judicial warrant, rather than an administrative warrant, to enter a home without permission.

Hobbs’ office said Judicial Watch is likely entitled to some records, including production costs, but called the organization’s requests overly broad. The governor’s office said it has not intentionally delayed its response and believes the records will show Hobbs was informing residents about their constitutional rights. Judicial Watch has previously sued Hobbs over alleged withholding of immigration-related records, but dropped that case after the state said it had no responsive documents.
