Arizona heat sends more than 3,000 to the emergency room so far this year, data shows

Arizona’s extreme heat has sent more than 3,000 people to emergency rooms so far this year, according to data from the Arizona Department of Health Services.

The risk was especially high during a recent weekend when temperatures rose above 117 degrees on both Friday and Saturday. Friday’s temperature set a record, and 131 people were hospitalized that day.

From Friday through Monday, heat illness affected 402 people, the data shows. Older adults and children are among those considered most vulnerable.

Warning signs of heat illness include dizziness, headaches, heavy sweating and weakness.
