19-year-old motorcyclist dies in crash at Speedway and Richey

A 19-year-old motorcyclist died after a crash early Saturday at East Speedway Boulevard and North Richey Boulevard, according to the Tucson Police Department.

Police said the crash happened shortly after midnight. Tucson Fire Department crews took the rider, identified as Jaycob Christopher Nieto, to Banner University Medical Center, where he later died. His family has been notified.

According to police, a silver 2012 Hyundai Tucson was turning left from westbound Speedway onto southbound Richey when it was hit by Nieto’s eastbound motorcycle. Witnesses said the motorcycle was traveling well above the posted speed limit. Nieto had a valid motorcycle endorsement and was wearing a helmet. Police said the 60-year-old Hyundai driver was not impaired.
