About Humane Society of Southern Arizona Thrift Store

Humane Society of Southern Arizona Thrift Store is a Tucson thrift shop that connects everyday shopping and donating with local animal welfare. Operated as part of the Humane Society of Southern Arizona, the store sells quality used items, including clothing, decor, furniture, pet supplies, and more. It also serves as a place to meet dogs available for adoption on select days, extending the Humane Society's work beyond its shelter and into the community.

The store's inventory spans a wide range of categories. Shoppers may find furniture, household items, electronics, toys, collectibles, art, jewelry, books, pet items, clothes, antiques, and sports items. The variety gives donated goods another use while helping support the Humane Society's broader mission. For Tucson residents, the store offers a way to shop for secondhand items while contributing to an organization that cares for pets and works to keep animals and families together.

The Humane Society of Southern Arizona has served the region since 1944. Its mission is to compassionately serve pets and the people who love them through lifesaving programs, animal care and well-being, and community engagement and support. The organization describes itself as a local, independent nonprofit rather than a government agency or national organization. Its work includes adoption and foster programs, affordable spay and neuter services, low-cost vaccinations, pet food assistance, education programs, and partnerships with other nonprofits and shelters in Southern Arizona.

That larger mission gives the thrift store a practical role in supporting shelter operations. The donations center accepts items in good, functional condition, with furniture, household goods, electronics, toys, collectibles, art, jewelry, books, pet supplies, clothing, antiques, and sporting items among the categories listed by HSSA. Donors are asked to keep unusable or unsuitable goods out of the donation stream. The store does not accept items such as non-working appliances, furniture needing repair, construction materials, hazardous waste, used mattresses and bed pillows, wet or soiled clothing, recalled items, tires, water heaters, and several other categories. HSSA says these guidelines help maximize the store's contribution to the shelter's budget.

The store's current location is described by HSSA as its new permanent home in Tucson, in the area just north of 22nd Street. Visitors can browse the store Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., with the store closed Monday. Donations are received Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Adoptable dogs are available through Special Dogs of Tucson on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The store also offers a senior discount on Thursdays and a military discount with proof of affiliation, although those discounts do not apply to furniture. Shopping, donating usable goods, and visiting the adoptable dogs all provide ways for Tucsonans to take part in the Humane Society of Southern Arizona's local work.
